The already confirmed show with Damien* at Velvet Club is now taking place on Saturday 14th April instead of the previously announced date. We are fixing some more shows for March/April and should really be able to tell you soon.

Last but not least, Roy landed in Madrid last week. He's off to Madrid for a few months, partying and getting high all time. The bastard! We wish him a nice time in Spain and a lovely time throughout his stay. We should visit him sometime or he will visit us in Barcelona when we fly over there for Primavera Sound, a festival that we recommend you. Anyway, see you soon you sick man!!

As a bassman leaves, another one is ready to be on board. Today we've had our first rehearsal with Stefano (yes, my brother). Things were pretty easy in the end, far better than we expected. That's cool, it means we won't have to get pissed at him after weeks of failures. We'll be ready to kick off the live shows pretty soon. We have a scheduled date at the end of the month for the moment but we're working on loads for March and April. If things go as we'd love then it's really going to be an amazing Spring.

We'll keep updates posted as soon as we have.

Cheers for now
all the best
Loz

Loud Underground

Hello there,

Happy new year, first of all. Not cold at all over here but it may turn soon. Hope you'll be warm again by the time we are hitting the road in March as we are now taking a break. Exams and rehearsing with our new bassist will do it for the current month and February. No, Roy is not going to be kicked out of the band. He will just leave us for six months as he'll be off to Madrid on Erasmus. While he's in sunny Spain we'll play with another lad we will soon tell you about.

Anyway, yesterday we played a tremendous show at ZooBar. We headlined the night at Torino Sotterranea and went onstage around 12.20am, later than our scheduled time>11.45pm (then moved to midnight). As we knew we couldn't have all the time in the world, we suddenly launched ourselves into a terrific Pop Dreams, soon followed by killing single Replacements (with no backing vocals as my microphone was kind of turned off). The set included a new song, never played live before, and an amazing version of Catch A Breath, definitely the best we've played so far. Final noise with a special cover of Primal Scream's Accelerator did the rest, ending the show in feedbacks and with the consciousness of being a powerful live act. Complete setlist:

POP DREAMS
REPLACEMENTS
NEW ONE
CATCH A BREATH
SHOEGAZER
ACCELERATOR

That's all for now. We will save some space on here to wish Roy a good luck with his trip. We may make a visit for some dates over there but as it's not confirmed yet we prefer to keep the mouth shut. More news to follow, anyway.

Have a good weekend!
Cheers,

Loz

On tape!

These are twenty songs that every so-called music fan must know. We had a long weekend this past week. First, me and Ham travelled to some village near Piacenza on Saturday to meet Carla & Fabrizio of Tea Kettle. We had a really good time with a dinner them, talking about future plans as regards the agency and the label that we hope we'll be part of. Then we celebrated Carla for getting gratuated. Ham performed a solo show voice+guitar which, despite problems with his vocals for being ill, turned out more than fine. He played some new tunes that still haven't been done at rehearsals. From what they sounded with the guitar only, I believe these will become really good ones.

Yesterday, after watching our football team Toro winning again and jumping straight to Europe cups on table, we had the show at Rock On Cicle. We were the last to play and went onstage around 00.30 am. Despite playing in front of just a few people (almost all of the six friends attending) we did a very good one. Ham had to face difficulties as the ampli stopped working in the middle of "Replacements", which me and Roy kept playing to the end. We played it again and this time we didn't suffer from any more problems. This was the first time we got to play a new song, currently called "shoegazer". Of course it's still a working title and it's called like that as it sounds shimmering like the early nineties' bands. It seemed to be an highlight of the set together with "Catch A Breath". We went out of the contest only getting 4 votes from the public (plus 20 from the judges), not enough to go close to the bands who had taken lots of friends with them. Are we feeling upset? Not at all. We only cared of playing at our best, no matter if we hadn't passed the turn. Turin isn't ready for loud pop tunes and we are not willing to wait.
Here we go with the setlist:

(Noise intro to)
POP DREAMS
SATAN
REPLACEMENTS
CATCH A BREATH
HIDE AWAY
SHOEGAZER
(fucking noisy end)

That will do it for 2006. Next year it will have to be a great one. We all think it's going to be like that so we keep fingers crossed. We wish you a Happy Christmas and Happy New Year and we'll keep this updated with news as we have them. Next show will be on 12th January at Zoo Bar for Torino Sotterranea. Then Glastonbury, Benicassim and All Tomorrow's Parties ;)

All the best
Cheers
dan

Live, finally!

Saturday and Sunday we'll play live again.
On Saturday you can attend a very special evening 'cause I'll play all alone, just guitar and voices. Now, we don't really feel like doing this after talking for 90 days about the one and only date we should have headlined and seeing it given to another band instead just a few days ago. Having been offered a slot on the 22nd (only 3 days ago) that we decided to accept in order to avoid further and unpleasant quarrels, we were hoping it would have gone ahead just like we had previously announced on here. Unfortunately, it's been quickly given to some tribute band instead and the date is closed already.
We would have liked it to be our night (with the launch of our first recording) and we had been working on it since the middle of October but it's not only a matter of headlining. If we always have to pay for someone else's faults then it really becomes frustrating.
Who wants to see us can still catch the chance on Sunday 17th December. Not that we really look forward to it now.

Cheers

SB

Turin Show Postponed

Hi all

Just a quick communication this time. The dude did lots of guitar tracks - most of them DISTORTED - and it sounded great. I wonder how many italian bands have ever done 6 tracks for a "pop" song.. I let you imagine for the harder ones.. His vocals could be compared to the Blur era while the sound is huge and powerful from the "rough" mix. Guess it will be grandious for the final one.
As regards "Hide Away", you'll get to hear it freaking speedy. Forgive me but after I was fucking various takes up again and again, I must have lost control yesterday and did a very quick one. Not too bad as Ham managed to sing it fine the first time. Me and Roy failed to do backing vocals, I guess we weren't used to even though I always do well at rehearsals. Nevermind, mine will come with next recording as soon as some label kicks our asses to the studio again. We all hope it won't be years away as we enjoyed this very much.
Tomorrow we will mix all and see what comes out of it. Hopefully posting the songs on myspace tomorrow evening if it's alright.
Talk soon, stay primal
Jody

Studio - Day 1

Hi there

First days of recordings at sPAZIO 211, it went pretty good. I had to face problems with my snare plus pedal shit (god bless the day I'll buy a new one). I did various takes off each song but then we got to choose the final version for any of them. Roy did his sick job in a shorter time. The stuff sounds cool, it's not as perfect as you will hear in big productions but time doesn't await us plus we're a rough band and that's how you'll get to hear us live. So, if any mistake is gonna make it on the final mix, it's not our problem! We wanna hit, not be clean and precise. We do not play progressive.
Tomorrow Ham's gonna have all the lights on him and his distortion pedals. Then day 3 for mixing and finishing this demo. We ended today's reahearsal with three new good songs. Two are mine and one is Roy's. I brought a melancholic ballad son of my favourite folksingers such as, dunno!, someone like Gram Parsons? maybe. The other one is the kind of power-ballad I'm able to write like the pole-position hit single Catch A Breath. Roy's one is a baggy-pop tune inspired by the Stone Roses... We tried to turn it into a more melodic version and we definitely did it!

We've also confirmed the studio: 20th, 21st, 22nd November @ Spazio211.

Opening acts never been understood

Fidenza (Parma), 27.10.2006

Members of Somewhere Between left Turin in a sunny afternoon, yesterday around 3 pm. We played some shitty Suicide and New Order's live shows in the car stereo before hitting the motorway with Lemonheads played out loud. The travel was fine, Ham was writing lyrics to some songs while Rob and I kept on racing with a tourist-bus always trying to overtake us. We HAD to play the mighty "Live in Japan" to help the competition have us as the winners. This was before we took a break at some Autogrill, always an unmissable stop during any travel worth the name. Me and Ham suddenly fell in love with a huge bear pelouche for kids. We would have loved to take him with us but I guess it was too hard to push him into the car.

(sick Roy's chocolate shopping)

Close to approaching the land of the show, we (someone said it was me but, for fuck's sake, it was no one's fault) missed the right exit and we were forced to go through villages before reaching the town of Fidenza. We stopped at the train station and waited for Ham's girlfriend (Elo) to arrive. Roy was tragically lost for half an hour but neither me nor Ham wanted to go looking for him in the toilets! He was just on the phone in the end..

We reached the club after meeting Alain and Nicola from Vancouver, really friendly and nice from the beginning. Alain's dad is a Toro fan and they all hate **ventus so it was easy to get along so well!

We did the soundcheck around 9.10 pm and we want to thank all the guys from the band for having given us almost all their equipment, it was fantastic. Ok, our soundcheck is pretty simple: turning the amplifieres to the maxium volume. That's all. Of course we had to turn it down a bit when we rehearsed Pop Dreams at killing speed as Ham's guitar was covering all the rest of the instruments.

We walked to eat something for dinner as we found out the club wasn't going to give us any dinner. A fair kebab did it for us and we had more time to talk with Vancouver, finding them freaking funny people. This helped a lot with keeping us feeling calm and alright before the show. I had never played live before and I was sure I would have been very nervous which, in the end, turned out not to be true.

(setlist from our first show!)

We walked onstage around 11.35 pm with a few people attending. The same that, after the show, came and said how fucking loud we were! Someone seemed to walk away and someone else told us about the impossibility of talking even at the bar! Sorry guys but that's our way! We were all satisfied with the gig itself, well played despite some little technical difficulties. The sound engineer, to whom we all want to say thanks, came after every song to say the guitar was still too loud to hear all the rest so Ham kept turning down the ampli. Weird 'cos onstage it didn't really feel like loud at all. The brave souls that chose not to miss a single second said that we really sounded like on some big festival's main stage despite being in a tiny room. The voice seemed to work well (in terms of coming out of the speakers) on the last two songs. I was playing barefoot and I broke my right stick right before the pause on "Catch A Breath" that gave me time to pick another one and finish the song. Damn, it was kinda bran new! I fucked the start of "Hide Away" but it was tremendous. I felt like the whole show had lasted only ten bloody minutes while it did not. There couldn't be a better kick off for our live appearances anyway.

(Ham doing a wild guitar solo)

(2/3 of the band and half of my right arm hitting the crash)

We watched Vancouver's set a little after and we all loved it. They really built great peaks and I loved Alain's vocals. They do have very cool songs and we hope they will get signed by some label soon 'cos they deserve it. We all look forward to playing together again in the next months as we shared a very nice night. We stayed at the club until 3 am, not before leaving something on the dressing room's wall (the title of this post).

The travel to Pavia (Elo's place) was scary. Terrible on a side, amazing on another. There were no lights on the motorway so Roy decided to follow some East European tir because, as some of his friends say, "they always know where to go". We suddenly met a freaking deep and low fog so we decided to hit the accelerator: INTO THE FOG, INTO THE FOG! It was dark and death outside the car, Fugazi inside. Roy kind of killed ourselves before arriving as he hadn't seen the street sign with the right direction. Of course he would have been kicked off the band if he had done some damaging crap! We finally got to sleep around 5am and woke up at 11.30 as someone came to change Elo's fridge making the most fucking annoying noises. Weren't we the loudest?!?!

Thanks again to Vancouver and everybody that helped this happen. We will rehearse new stuff in the next weeks hoping to fix more shows. We have some pictures coming soon in our MySpace profile, keep checking out!

See you all, Jody

Rock On Circle's gig

On Saturday Roy & Dan went to the ol' Soundfactory (placed in c.so Vigevano 54) to know where and when we'll have to play Rock On Circle rock contest. Born long time ago somewhere between the countryside near Turin-Capitol-City, I began to play bass since I discovered how easy it was to play hard and with the loudest volume you've ever heard.
Oh, fuck. That's not true. I began to play guitar (and I'm actually playin' it in a crazy band whose name is Perfect Chaos) then, one cloudy Madchesterian day, Ham came to me with a 5.000 pounds check, and he was like:"man ... I'm lookin' for a split-ass bass player ... I've heard nothin' 'bout you but there's something in your smile that's really weird". And that's how it all began.
Doing it for the money. Isn't it?

After the amazing rehersal in the deep deep hot hot Turin loud summer, done with a bass stolen from my too kind sister (I keep playin' with that. why not?), I also learned how to play it. Not too much. And I want you to know that's fundamental in our attitude. Anyone of you little russian dwarfs who'll come to see us, will learn what's really important in our music.

Drugs?

No ...

Alcoholics?

Not too much. I mean ... if our drummer could sometimes bring zwei bière it would be great ...

Alan McGee?

Sure. But he's nearly dead. Oh, I hope he will not read this. I really love him.

What's really important it's - oh, shit. I forgot it. But 't was something like fuzz, vodka in our veins, smash, rock'n'roll, accelerators, feedback, jesus & mary spleen, primal fanclub and whatever. WE PLAY. you suck. that's it.

So, come to see us at any gig and bring in yr skin a lot of sweat. You'll need it.

Now On

Hello there

Done another reharsal tonight, it was all great. The new song is complete now but it's still untitled. It doesn't even have lyrics yet (as well as "Hide Away"): Ham promises they'll both have by the time we play our firt show in Fidenza on the 27th. Yes, we're all looking forward to it and tonight we tested the set we will be playing. Songs are getting better and better and I'm sure it'll be alright for the gig. It'll go on for half an hour and we've chosen seven tunes to perform, including a few covers as our own material is currently made of four. Come and see youself whose bands we'll be covering!

Another good news is that next week we'll be doing a photo session with Laura, a friend from Milan. She is a clothes designer and has done pictures for bands already so if you're willing to see our faces, just give it another six days. Most of the work will be posted on our myspace page.
As regards contest, we've been selected for Rock On Circle so this means we'll be playing Turin soon.

Last but not least, next week we'll go visit the great people at sPAZIO 211 to talk about going into studio to record a demo. It should happen around the second half of November and, useless to say, we look forward to doing it and giving you the chance to hear and download our music. We even hope we'll play our favourite club soon, hopefully before the end of the year, it would be lovely.

See you again soon!
Cheers, dan

Attitude ...

Somewhere Between's own stuff begins to shape. It'll be on the 12nd of January so it's still pretty far away. Rules of this competition are quite simple: 20-minutes set for each band, no volume limits (well, they really didn't say anything about it). We really hope we'll do some more shows before anyway. We are waiting for another contest ("Rock On Circle") to tell us the start and hopefully a closer date.

Yesterday at the reharsals it was really a mess. The band playing before us left the place fifteen minutes later and the room really looked terrible. Roy was late as he always is. Our songs sounded far more speedy than usual. Well they didn't really "sound" like that, WE DID THEM LIKE THAT. We were completely in the mood and just didn't want to do things peacefully. Ham turned his amplifier at maximum volume on my request.. it didn't sound loud at all before! Are we damaging out ears already? It could be. Anyway, after a killing cover of Who's "My Generation", things fell apart and Ham threw the microphone away. Myself, trying to follow what was happening but keeping on playing, accidentally let my drumstick hit my eye. Fuck knows how it happened.. My left-eye lens died shortly after it. Rest In Peace.

Tonight, me and Ham will be watching the great Radio Birdman playing the Live Club in Trezzo, a village not too far from Milan. The unlucky Roy won't be able to join us instead. I wish you all a great weekend as the one we're getting close to. See you soon.

Cheers, Jody

Contest

We are happy to report our selection for the "Torino Sotterranea" rock contest. First post on this blog and first on a blog ever! I guess it had to happen someday.. Anyway, as the start, I'll go with the story of the three of us.

I met Ham through common friends back in the Autumn of 2004. He and Michele (Squirrel's voice and guitar) attended the same course at University, here in Turin. We were introduced at a gig but we didn't really love each other at first. We started going to shows together (Turin and Milan) and found ourselves sharing the same passion for live events and infinite love towards the fantastic sPAZIO 211 club. Now, as I think of shows, he's the one I always see myself with at any concert.

Marco (Rob.. or Bob) and I met at Uni in the Spring of 2005. I remember him coming to ask me where I had bough a Joy Division t-shirt from and that's how we started talking. We saw some concerts together and went to lessons without really listening to the teachers but thinking about silly names for the four-piece band we had started. It didn't really split up but stopped playing after some months even though we had written a couple of good songs.

We all kind of share the same tastes in music and we all support the one and only football team of the city, Torino. It's always a good start! We just found ourselves having to spend some free time before leaving for holidays on a sunny August afternoon so we decided to go playing for the pleasure of it and things went wild as fuck. It was all about attitude (and it's how it still is) and we played some tunes by Dinosaur Jr, Lemonheads, Big Star, Primal Scream and Teenage Fanclub without ever performing them before. It went down great and we left the room with the ears killed by the huge noise we did keeping the volumes insanely loud.

So, after Ham's band splitted up, it all seemed like the natural way to start a new band together. Things are looking brighter and brighter even after the few reharsals we've had so far. Hope it'll keep on going like this.
As for the choice to write this blog in English.. as a friend said, we think global!
See you back soon

Cheers, dan

A brief introduction ...

We were born three weeks ago after the official split of my previous band named Squirrel.
